What’s New on Your Thumbtack Profile
If you click the link in your Thumbtack account to view your profile in customer mode, you can view your profile as your customers do—and you’ll notice that a few things have changed.
Update #1: Reviews and Stars Have Top Billing
Your reviews are the most important part of your Thumbtack profile, so these days they’re at the very top.
We’ve also changed the way customers see your overall rating—broken out by percentages—to help highlight your track record and minimize any one or two-star flukes.
Review Tip: Having one or two less-than-stellar reviews can actually be a good sign for customers, who trust that your reviews are real and honest. Just make sure you respond to any negative reviews and offer to make things right.

Update #2: Services Options Are Now Listed on Your Profile
Everything you select in your job preferences (the kinds of buildings you clean, drains you unclog, etc.) is now displayed at the bottom of your profile.
When a customer is considering you for a job, they can see whether any of the additional services you offer might be right for their project. Think hard about what you choose to include and only list services that you can follow through on.

Update #3: Your Business Website Is Easy to Find
Your business website is no longer buried in the ‘About this pro’ section of your profile.
Why? Because proof matters, and having a professional website is one of the biggest ways to communicate your credibility to potential customers.
“I always click through websites because I have pretty specific needs and I want to see what their final product looks like,” says Thumbtack customer Laura A.
Website Tip: Building a website is an investment, but it doesn’t have to be a costly one. Some pros even use a Facebook page when they’re first getting started.

Take Advantage of Background Checks
Pros who have a background check badge on their Thumbtack profile are hired 44 percent more than pros who don’t.
Unlike psychiatrists or attorneys, many pros on Thumbtack work in areas that don’t require a license (which is registered as a separate badge on your profile). Regardless, passing a background check is a clear way to signal to your customers that you take their safety seriously.
As Kristin Walsh, a yoga teacher on Thumbtack, explains, “I do a lot of in home, one-on-one lessons, so having a background check is pretty important.”
