The Thumbtack Top Pro program celebrates professionals who are dedicated to delivering exceptional work—the from the quality of their craft to above and beyond customer service. Twice a year, Thumbtack selects a new group of pros to elevate to the level of ‘Top Pro,’ comprising just four percent of all pros on Thumbtack.
Who Becomes a Top Pro?
To be a Top Pro, professionals must have a track record of delivering service that makes customers happy, which breaks down roughly to the amount a pros has been hired and the quality of reviews they’ve received. Factors like how you handle upset customers and resolve problems also factor into Top Pro eligibility.
The occupations represented in today’s class are incredibly diverse—from HVAC technicians to DJs and computer repair specialists— demonstrating that becoming a Top Pro is less determined by what you do, than with how well you do it. Over 60 percent of today’s class are over the age of 35 and nearly 30 percent employ between three and five workers. And they’re based everywhere from New York and Los Angeles (roughly 10 percent of Top Pros come from each) to Denver and Miami.
Meet Some of This Year’s Top Pros
This year’s Top Pro class includes marketer-turn-professional-caterer Nikki Bell, who started her Atlanta-based catering company after competing on the Food Network and realizing that food could be more than just a passion—it could be her career. Today, she has over 120 reviews on Thumbtack four and five-star reviews on Thumbtack to prove it.
Nikki isn’t the only pro in this class that joined Thumbtack after a major career transition. Ricky Godoy started his five-star creative company Yo Dog Media on Thumbtack after losing his job at a New Jersey nonprofit, and Mark Simpson left his position at an insurance company to pursue his passion for photography. Today, Mark’s photos have been published in major news outlets across the world—including Scotland and the UK—and he’s able to support his wife and family with the income he earns on Thumbtack.
But we also see stories of longtime pros who use Thumbtack to take control of their career and strike out on their own. Marissa Warren spent her whole career working as a makeup artist and stylist. But when she moved from San Francisco to Austin, rather than applying for jobs in salons, she decided to start her own beauty business—and she did it on Thumbtack. Over 150 hires and 133 reviews later, her company Velvet Beauty employs up to ten other stylists, and Marissa is a Top Pro.
You’re a Top Pro! Now What?
It’s easy to spot a Top Pro on Thumbtack. Top Pros have an orange ‘Top Pro’ ribbon at the top of their quotes and profiles, and badges to display on their social media pages.
But Top Pros get more than just a badge to recognize their success. As a group, they do so much to help Thumbtack succeed, and in return we do what we can to further our Top Pros’ success. This includes priority customer service from our amazing support team, as well as exclusive invites to any upcoming Thumbtack features, events or promotions.
In return, Top Pros play a big role in growing and strengthening the pro community by contributing to pro success stories and sharing their tips for winning more business on Thumbtack.
